Danish Award Winner, Writer of Poetry
I tried to erase the lines I was seeing
Lines that appeared to be pencil
Lines in the book I was reading
(Books bought unseen
Purchased online
Might seem second hand
Maybe I'd bought a second hand book)
I tried to erase them
These lines not mine
Lines that underlined
Lines by another (???)
Lines in a book pretending to be used
Lines in a book pretending to be me
I could not erase the will of the "pencil"
The markings remained unmoved
Permanent as indelible ink
Permanent as my scornful dismay
That the author indulged in such printing
So I angrily wrote
My pen smashing the margin:
I tried to erase these lines
Lines I did not make
I could not erase them
I am stuck with them
I am stuck with their
Big Bang to Entropy
The Nihilistic view of Existence
Go embrace your perfect
Black sphere of hardness
I'll roll mine right back
Right back up the hill
Thank you very much
For your view of nothing
*******
Of course I did not
Send these words
Recall not her full name
Why such disdain
For "my people":
These Danes
Destroyed by her books
I ripped them both to death
An act of vengeance
That left me unbereft.
